The ultimate Gas Case Study

Going through the winter season, the drop in temperature is now noticeable and the process of searching for the optimal way of heating is underway by interested consumers. Now, solutions are being sought for fuels other than heating oil, which, although there has been a small reduction in the VAT, the final sale price remains high. Natural gas is once again the star of consumer preferences this year, especially with the indoor installation subsidy program carried out within the NSRF Operational Program 2007-2013, the duration of which will be until April 30, 2015.

Therefore, the purpose of this article is to clarify the degree of attractiveness of the investment regarding the replacement of heating from fuel oil to fuel gas. To avoid distortions we should take the following data as a reference:

Reference data:

  1. Energy certificate of the house, which informs us about the energy consumption per sq.m. Knowing that most residences belong to groups H to Z, (based on the electronic file from the Ministry of Health) the example we are considering has an energy consumption of 110 to 180 kWh/m2, with a consumption for heating and domestic hot water (DHW) of approx. from 90-150 kWh/m2.
  2. The residence is located within Attica.
  3. The square footage is approximately 110.
  4. The apartment has connected to the central heating system (central boiler – burner):

a. Single pipe heating system or

b. Two-pipe heating system

  1. The new installation includes disconnection from central heating and installation of a wall-mounted condensing boiler-burner. Existing radiators do not have to be replaced.
  2. The cost of heating with oil per year amounts to €890/year (approx. €1.1/lt, 800 lt of heating/year. (Full Article)
